Unearthing Possibilities

... Design Process & Fee Structure

OVERVIEW

The complete program provides guidance and documents the intent of the design.

The client has the option of a do-it-yourself project, working with a nurseryman or contractor to develop an implementation strategy, or completing construction documents and securing bids from several contractors.

Designing is a creative process, therefore we quote an estimate range for the services requested by our client.  If we spend more time on a project than estimated, our client is only contractually obligated to cover the maximum fee on the contract.

Payment is expected upon the completion of each Phase (I - IV) before work can begin on the next phase.  50% of Phase V fee must be paid prior to encapsulation of the final plan, with the balance due upon delivery of the final plan package.

Our complete program is offered in the order as it is presented here.  Each project is required to start with an initial consultation and work through each phase.  If you are interested only in a portion of the program, this must be discussed during the initial consultation and/or indicated in the signed agreement.

 ~ Design Phases ~

I--INITIAL CONSULTATION

The designer will meet with the property owner(s) on site to discuss ideas, project scope and to answer questions pertaining to our services.  Your Dream Garden, Inc. will use this information to provide a more accurate cost estimate for your design process.

 II--SITE ANALYSIS & BASE MAP

A site analysis will be conducted and property measurements will be taken.  If necessary, soil samples will be taken at this time for an additional cost.

The designer will prepare a base map drawn to a scale appropriate for future planning, which will include the locations of the home, garage, out buildings, existing trees and plantings, etc.

Obtaining a plot plan from your local municipality and/or an existing scaled and accurate base map that our designer can work with will contribute to keeping the Phase I fee to a minimum.

 III--DESIGN PROGRAM

Your design program is a critical part of the design process.

Your designer will meet with you to assess the needs, uses, and functions of the area.  Based on the information gathered at this meeting, a personal design program will be developed.

The personal design program  keeps track of all the key elements involved in the design.  Existing items will be cataloged so decisions can be made as to what to keep, relocate, or exclude them from the design.  Suggestions from the designer will be included to allow consideration from the client.

Remember, we are creating YOUR dream garden.  Client participation is key to a successful program.  We encourage all decision makers to participate as much as possible.

If you'd like to include any specific plant material in the final plan, please provide your designer with this information.  We will take your requests into consideration, verify the compatibility and growing conditions and advise you of our findings.

A follow-up meeting will be scheduled to review your design program.  If necessary, a specialist may attend this meeting to address specific features and/or issues (i.e.: ponds, drainage, irrigation, etc.)  Notes and revisions will be added and your design program , and  the design program may continue to evolve throughout the design process.

Upon completion, you will have a concise, easy to follow summary which will  include all the necessary information to make your dream garden a reality.

 IV--CONCEPTUAL PLANS

Based on the information contained in your design program the designer will prepare conceptual plans offering layout options.  These plans include landscape and hardscape treatments, gardens, patios, etc.

The general layout and materials will be discussed; however specific plant species will not be indicated at this time.

Once you select a layout option, the plans are revised and the designer will suggest specific plant species to use throughout your garden.  Suggestions will be based on USDA Hardiness Zone, soil quality, location, conditions and client color preference.  Every effort will be made to select plant material suitable for the growing conditions available at your specific location.  It is strongly recommended that the client follow the advice of the designer when selecting their plant material to insure a successful outcome.

Elements of the conceptual plans along with other ideas that come up during this meeting will be represented in the final plan and design program.

 V--FINAL PLAN

The final plan will be drawn to show all the major elements of the design outlined in the conceptual plans and design program.

The full-color plan is hand drawn to scale and can be used to determine phasing for the construction and installation depending on your budget and needs.

Once the final plan is developed, a preliminary opinion of probable cost and materials can be calculated at an additional fee.

Upon your approval, your final plan will be fully encapsulated in laminate to allow full use throughout your project.

In addition to the final plan and completed design program, you will receive a master plant list, a recommended contractor list specifically tailored to your project, and a CD containing additional information and documents pertaining to your design program and final plan.  This package provides you with all the basic information to install the work yourself or to work with a landscape contractor.
